During a desperate curing ritual, a jiinea link entwines the souls of Tulûk and Silphae sealing them in a supernaturally powered life bond that yields an intensely passionate attraction.  Though neither can deny the bond, it is Tulûk's duty to deliver Silphae to Harand to marry his King.  The Guardian of Harand must choose between loyalty to his boyhood friend and claiming the woman he loves.  Following the Magus is the only answer yet both deny its choice until a terrible secret is revealed and they understand that failure to accept the will of the gods will guarantee their destruction while acceptance promises life, but one that is utterly changed from all they have known.
